In Honor of My Sox!

No, not the things I wear on my feet. I’m talking about my team – the Red Sox. Now, why on earth would I write anything about baseball in the middle of a blog about film? Ah..HA! Let me happily explain.

It’s about 11pm and while I should be catching some much needed zzzz’s, instead I watch my Sox as they battle to take the World Series lead 2-1 with a win this evening. So, while sitting here I got to thinking about the last World Series that my Sox were in – the 2004 Series. You know…the one they WON. In the weeks leading up to Game 7 there was this little known film being made, a film that had it’s final scenes shooting as the Sox won that game. The film was Fever Pitch and I got to thinking about it tonight.

In my head, all the signature songs that epitomize a true Red Sox fan – Sweet Caroline (by Neil Diamond), Tessy (by the Drop Kick Murphys), and of course, Dirty Water (by the Standelles) – all songs that play in the film play over and over in my brain. In constant repeat are the words, “….love that Dirty Water…Boston, you’re my home…” and “Sweet Caroline…bum..bum…bum…good times never seems so good – so good! so good! so good!” etc. and as they play, scenes from Fever Pitch coincide with the tunes, almost like my own little music video…and I smile. I love that movie…Fever Pitch…and I better tell you all about it or I will not have done my duty in this Blog.

Pitch is about a math teacher played by Jimmy Fallon and his two loves – baseball, specifically the Boston Red Sox, and his girl played by Drew Barrymore. It’s a story about finding love and endless possibilities. According to Jimmy’s character, Ben Wrightman, his being able to find love is about as probable as his team winning the World Series. He finds the love he thought was so elusive in the form of ambitious business consultant, Lindsey, and when he does so, he realizes that you know what – ANYTHING is possible!

Fever Pitch is cute…probably cuter for we Red Sox Fans…and I’m sitting here tonight just thinking about when I’ll watch it again (yes, I own it). Probably after the World Series is over and hopefully after my Sox have won it.

Want to come over for a special screening of Fever Pitch? Shoot me an email! Just kidding. Got any movies that remind you of good times? Do share!

See YOU at the movies,

Lisa :)

love the post…great tie-in.

I have so many movies I LOVE that reminds me of good times…one of my favorites is Vegas Vacation. My favorite movies are any of the Vacations. But, I love this movie because I love Vegas…pretty interesting from someone who doesn’t gamble. I love the movie so much that I insisted on staying at the Mirage last time we were there and trying to find all the places the different scenes were shot at…since I know them all by heart.

Don’t you love how movies can have that effect on us!! I want to go back to Vegas now!!
