Lisa’s Top 10 Holiday Movies of All Time….continued

I know some of you were waiting with bated breath.  :D Here are my final four -

Miracle on 34th Street#4 Miracle on 34th Street (1947)

This is the Natalie Wood/Maureen O’Hara version. The innocence of Wood in her role is what pulls you in. She is so cute! Plus, it’s old-time Hollywood too and you can’t beat that either.

Home Alone#3 Home Alone (1990)

This is a holiday classic and one that I watch each year, sometimes two or three times too. With an all-star cast headed by Catherine O’Hara, Joe Pesci, and Macaulay Culkin with a special appearance by John Candy, this movie just makes me laugh (depending on the scene, sometimes uncontrollably. )

Scrooge#2 Scrooge (1951)

Starring Alastair Sims in the title role, Scrooge is an adaptation of the Charles Dickens tale, A Christmas Carol…and it’s a GOOD one! I love the Spirits (of Christmas Past, Christmas Present, and Christmas Yet to Come). Once again, it’s done in the old Hollywood way, including having been shot and presented in black and white.

and my #1 Top 10 Holiday Movie of all Time (so far anyway) is:

It’s a Wonderful LifeIt’s a Wonderful Life (1946)

Admittedly, I didn’t even watch this for the first time until about 4 years ago. My mother-in-law loves it and we sat down together to watch it one Christmas Eve. It’s been my favorite ever since. Starring the magnificent Jimmy Stewart, the beautiful Donna Reed, and the great Lionel Barrymore (Great Uncle of actress/producer Drew Barrymore), this is a movie with heart and soul and everything in between. From the moment the dance hall floor opens to reveal a swimming pool (that causes mayhem as the dancers fall right in) to the end as the “bell rings an angel gets its wings”, it’s a wonderful story (no pun intended). I prefer the black and white version to the digitally remastered color one, just because once again, it brings me back to old Hollywood, the days when movies were just stories to be told on film. The message that Life presents is one we should all live by. It’s a Wonderful Life. It truly is…in more ways than one.

And there you have it, folks – my listing of the Top 10 Holiday Movies of All Time (well, so far anyway). There were so many movies to choose from but I had to narrow it down to the ones I look forward to each year.

I have to give a special mention to A Christmas StoryA Christmas Story but only because it’s one of my husband’s favorites and he said it would be wrong not to include it. :D

Good job!

Miracle on 34th Street was my favorite as a kid. I watched it *every* year, and never got tired of it.

Thanks for the good memories.
