My Top Ten Movies of 2007

Movie ProjectorWhat better way to start off 2008 then to reminisce and reflect upon some of my favorite films of 2007. The following lists MY Top Ten movies purely based on the list of films that I saw this past year out of the 990 that were released. Yeah, you heard me right – 990!

#10 Reign Over Me
I reviewed this film not too long ago. Check it out.

#9 Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End
The third installment of swashbuckling pirates, hair-raising moments, and surprising plot twists actually held up compared to the second movie in the series. Though for me, nothing will beat the first one. The original is still my favorite.

#8 Live Free or Die Hard
Bruce Willis doing what he knows best – acting as the shoot ‘em up hero Cop against the bad guys – was truly entertaining for the two hours I sat in the theater. I remember walking away from this one thinking, “This was actually pretty good!”

#7 Waitress
It’s funny. I was told to wait until I see this before making my Top Ten list. Well, I watched it this morning and I’m glad I waited. It’s a wonderful heart-warming story starring Keri Russell and, Mr. Mayberry himself, Andy Griffith. Well written, directed, and acted, I do recommend this film. (I’ll write my official review later in the week. Be on the lookout for it.)

#6 3:10 to Yuma
Once again, I’m not a HUGE fan of the Western but for this movie, I’ll take exception. Check out my review of it here.

#5 Ocean’s 13
I guess third time’s a charm for this installment too. Same thoughts here as I had for Pirates – this one outweighed the second installment in the series. It’s a very entertaining film and one I recommend as well.

#4 The Great Debaters
This is another film that I just recently saw and will have the review up later this week. It is truly a well-directed, written, and acted piece of cinema…and worth the $6.75 matinee price. Check back for my official review.

#3 Enchanted
Yeah, so it’s a cute Disney film. It was, if you’ll pardon the expression, enchanting. Any movie that makes me smile as much as this one did, deserves a high rating in my book. Check my official review here.

#2 Gone Baby Gone
Raw, edgy, and just about down right tugged my heart strings right out of my chest. It was hard to rate this as #2. I was actually bouncing back and forth between #1 and #2. Check out my official review of Gone Baby Gone here.

and my #1 film of 2007 -

The Bourne Ultimatum

Ultimatum is ultimately an edge-of-your-seater type of movie. Making his third appearance as Jason Bourne, Matt Damon, picks up the character right where he left off -wondering just who he is, where he came from, and where he’s going. Only this time, the amnesiac decides to do something about his wonderment. He goes after the truth.

The Bourne Ultimatum is full of action-packed sequences taking place in various countries, including a rooftop chase like none other I’ve seen in film, ultimately ending in of all places, New York City, where Bourne does indeed find the truth he was looking for. Returning in their respective roles Julia Styles (as Nicky Parsons), Albert Finney (as Dr. Albert Hirsch), and Joan Allen (as Pamela Landy), each character presents both an obstacle to Bourne’s truth and a help.

I just thought of something – “third time’s a charm” works for three movies in my Top Ten list. The difference between this one and the others I rated in that category, is that for the Bourne series, all 3 movies are fantastic! The Bourne Ultimatum was just released on DVD too. I think I might need to make a purchase…

There you have it – MY Top Ten Movies of 2007. I’m hoping for an even better movie year in 2008. What were some of your favorites? Are there any that you would’ve added to the list or interchanged with one of mine? Please leave a comment. I’d love to hear from you!

Until next time, see YOU at the movies!

Lisa :)

Wild Hogs all the way!

JK. Seriously though… I can’t say I agree with quite a few of your top picks… regardless of the fact I haven’t seen them… heaehhea Just not into those genres overall, and the couple I did see I thought were OK… but only OK.

The exception… Waitress. Holy Wow! That’s my unexpected perfect movie of the year. And the fact that Marc watched it and said he was surprised it was actually really good too… well, that makes it even more perfect to me! Kudos!

I haven’t seen any of these movies. I rented Waitress last week, but never got around to watching it. But then again, I think I only saw two movies at the theater last year: The Hitcher and Knocked Up.

Bourne Ultimatum is a grate movie. I have all the Bourne movies are grate.
