It’s Oscar Weekend!

All of Tinseltown, the critics (professional and arm-chair alike), the gossip mongers, and let’s not forget the fashionistas are abuzz with the latest on the preparations for the BIG night.  The Writer’s Strike has finally come to a close.  So, Jon Stewart should be well-rehearsed for his duties as host of the show.  The busy bees behind the scenes are frantically preparing for a potentially rainy Sunday afternoon (the red carpet is currently white and covered with a plexi-glass tent to keep it dry).

For some reason, this year I don’t find myself as enthusiastic over it all as I usually do.  About this time every year I’m anxiously anticipating Oscar Sunday making sure all of my laundry is done, the dog is walked (and fed), and the dinner dishes are cleaned in plenty of time for me to plop down on the couch and take it all in – from the Red Carpet entrances to all four plus hours of the show.  This year…not so much.

Maybe it’s because of I’m a bit perturbed that my favorite “Oscar worthy” film of the year, Gone Baby Gone, has barely a nomination to its credit.  Or maybe it’s because the Writer’s Strike just happened to end in the nick of time as final preparations are under way.  Or maybe it’s that I’m not that enthusiastic about the nominations this year in general.  I don’t know. However, like so many other film lovers out there, I too will download one of several Oscar ballots available in Cyberspace and see if my picks make the grade.

If you’d like to learn more about the nominees, MSNBC has a nice interactive link here.  In the meantime, to wet YOUR appetite for more on Oscar, here’s a clip from Access Hollywood’s coverage of Oscar weekend:

Check back next week for the winners in the major categories and to see if my percentage of winners outweighed the losers on my own ballot.

Lisa :)
