Downey, Jr. is Iron Man
Let me start by saying while I had every intention of taking in this flick at some point, when the decision was made nearly two weeks ago to see a movie, this wasn’t my first choice. I was more in the mood for a chick flick but being the good wife that I am, I gave in to what the hubby wanted to see (for the upteenth time – ha!) and I have to say, I’m glad that I did. Who would’a thunk it?!
My interest in Iron Man was purely because of my fondness for Robert Downey, Jr.’s acting mettle. No matter what you may think about him personally, when that man steps into character, he becomes that character. However, with this particular role, the character kinda sorta became him and as the film progressed, the “real” and the “iron” man became one.
Iron Man is the tale of self-absorbed self-centered egotistical brainiac hotshot, Tony Stark (played by Robert Downey, Jr.), forced to choose between the power that money
can bring or the power to defend evil in any form after he’s captured and coerced into manufacturing his own weapons to assist exactly what he’s building weapons to destroy. Tony eventually escapes his captors only to shortly thereafter learn who the bad guys truly are. As a result, he realizes he must not only defend himself but defend those that seek to destroy all that he has built. In the process, he learns the lessons of trust, friendship, and goodness.
From a production standpoint, the film has all the elements any summer blockbuster would have – high flying action sequences, objects (and people) being blown to bits, intrigue, and a little bit of love thrown into the mix. It’s worth the BIG screen viewing for those elements alone. But, it’s Tony Stark’s evolution and Robert Downey, Jr.’s portrayal of it that brings you in.
Iron Man also stars Gwenyth Paltrow in her first major film debut since giving birth to baby Apple and Jeff Bridges, who interestingly enough is surprisingly convincing in his role too.

I’m off to see Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull on its debut evening. I’ll have my blog post up tomorrow. Remember, I said that I have an interesting tie-in to that film? I can’t wait to share!
Until next time, see YOU at the movies,
Lisa
