Angels and Demons Released
And no, I don’t mean “angels” and “demons” are being released. Rather, the FILM starring Tom Hanks, Angels and Demons is debuting this weekend. The summer blockbuster race has begun! With Wolverine and Star Trek already making their presence well-known having debuted to high box office numbers, the question is – will Angels knock Trek off its pedestal as the #1 grossing film from last weekend?
Now, I never saw The DaVinci Code (I did read the book, though). The critics gave the film such bad reviews that I didn’t want to see it. However, I feel compelled to watch it now that there’s a sequel (which in book land is really a prequel) that I might just need to take in Code after all before seeing the highly-anticipated (not to mention, heavily-promoted) Demons.
What about you? Are you going to go see what the fuss is all about? If you do, I’d love to know your thoughts and more importantly, I’d love to know if it’s one that I should see. I’ll let you guys be the judge.
And I love Tom Hanks too so I kinda wanna see it but…
Until next time, see YOU at the movies!

I saw “Angels and Demons” today. I never saw “The DaVinci Code” nor did I read either book so I was going in with no idea what was what. I’m not quite sure what exactly I think about it. The reviews said it was the most boring action packed movie and I kind of agree with that as I did shift around a lot and consult my cell phone for the time a few times. But it was also interesting and I don’t regret seeing it. I know that doesn’t really help, but I really am just unsure of how I feel about it. It makes you think…a lot.
I read both books and watched Da Vinci Code at the theater. As far as the books go, I enjoyed Angels and Demons more. I saw Angels and Demons Saturday in Asheville (at the first non-stadium seating theater I have been in since 1999). I like “Code” as a movie, but I think I actually liked Angels and Demons better, for much of the same reason I liked the book better-I simply enjoyed the plot more. After all, I am an Art History major and when you get right down to it, its an action movie about art history!
Its not going to win any Oscars or anything, but its entertaining enough, good popcorn action. There were at least three significant plot differences in the movie but these plot devices, while they worked in book form, would have probably just complicated the movie plot/made it longer
GREAT Feedback, Everyone! Kind of a mixed bag. I saw Da Vinci Code yesterday and my review will be up later this week. However, based on what y’all are saying, even though I did not read the book for Angels & Demons, I think I might see the movie anyway. The verdict seems to be a “guess I need to see it for myself”. I just have a hard time seeing a movie if I didn’t read the novel it’s based on first. This time, I don’t plan to read the novel but I will see the film.
Now I’m just confusing myself!
I *had* to see it. Angels & Demons is one of my favorite books, Tom Hanks is my favorite actor, and Ewan McGregor is one of the hottest men alive (in my humble opinion). Some interesting deviations from the book, but all-in-all it was a pretty good adaptation. I definitely don’t think it deserved some of the horrible reviews it’s been getting… It’s not necessarily “movie of the year,” but definitely an entertaining movie that’s worth a look.

Lisa,
I’m by no means a regular movie-goer, in fact there are so many movies many consider “classic” that I’ve never seen. So it’s no surprise that I did not see The Da Vinci Code. BUT with an advance screening pass for Angels and Demons I couldn’t pass it up. I thought the movie was fabulous. I loved it and would see it again.
