Box Office Results (5/22-5/25)

I find it fascinating that even though so many films released this past month having either been a sequel (X-Men Wolverine) or an adaptation of existing subject matter (Star Trek) and those same films doing extremely well in their respective opening weekends, that Terminator Salvation couldn’t pull off a #1 debut during its weekend in release.  Is it because it was missing Ah-nold? Hmm…

Equally as fascinating, the sequel to the 2006 flick, Night at the MuseumNight at the Museum: Battle at the Smithsonian – BEAT Terminator Salvation for the top spot!

Rank Film Title Gross Weeks Cume
1 NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM: BATTLE… 70.00 1 70.0
2 TERMINATOR SALVATION 53.83 1 67.2
3 STAR TREK 29.40 3 191.0
4 ANGELS & DEMONS 27.70 2 87.8
5 DANCE FLICK 13.10 1 13.1

I find it even more fascinating that there isn’t a single ORIGINAL film listed in the top 5.  Look at that!  Was the Writer’s Strike of 2007 partly to blame for the lack of original material?  I have to wonder…

Saw four movies over the last week – The DaVinci Code, Capote, The Wrestler, and Frost/Nixon.  Have a few reviews to post up this and next week so be sure to check back!

I have seen four of the top 5 for the week. (No interest in the Dance Flick movie.) And I was so shocked to see that Night at the Museum beat Terminator out. I have to wonder if actually the Arnold appearance in Terminator didn’t turn people off, though. That kind of was the breaker for me.

Finally saw Star Trek this past weekend-It was GREAT! I’m excited about the new Transformers and Harry Potter, but I’m dissapointed by the G.I. Joe trailer. I had been really excited by the idea of at GI Joe movie, but it looks like an odd premise.

Michelle…interesting take on the reason Terminator may have been a turn off. Hmmmm. Now I might actually be interested in seeing it just to see what you are talking about. I might. :)

jmeadows…Star Trek is the BOMB as far as I’m concerned! I loved it (reviewed it already) but would actually consider seeing it again just to see if I missed anything the first time. Not as excited as you are about Potter (never got into the films or the books) but I do have an interest in Transformers. GI Joe…might be worth video only. Might…
