Will 7-4-09 Be a Blockbuster Weekend?

I think not.  There were only two potential blockbuster-like films released this weekend - Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs and Public Enemies. Both are probably pretty good but can they hold a candle to the July 4th blockbusters of the past?  Probably not.  I actually half-expected the latest Transformers flick to release this weekend [...]

Is There Credence to the MTV Movie Awards?

Earlier this week, the list of nominees for the annual Golden Popcorn award was released.  Leading the pack - Twilight with seven nominations but coming up just behind with six, my favorite movie of 2008, Slumdog Millionaire.
Twilight.  Really?
I shouldn’t diss.  I didn’t see the movie.  And I shouldn’t diss because the awards are voted on [...]

May the 4th Be With YOU!

Funny thing about me - I’m nearly 40 and if you do the math, I was 7 years-old when the very first Star Wars film was released.  While I’ve been hooked ever since, even I have to admit I had absolutely no idea that May 4th every year is also known as “Star Wars Day” [...]

EXTRA EXTRA - I was an Extra in Main Street!

What I really wanted to title this entry was - “Extra!  Extra!  Read All About It - I was an ‘Extra’ in Main Street” but the title was too long.  Yet, I’ve always wanted to say that. It’s one of those lines that only make sense when they make sense.  Does that make sense? Ok, [...]

Hannah Montana Vs Fast - Who Will Come Out On Top This Easter Weekend?

Last week, Fast and Furious blew away the box office taking in a whopping $71M.  With a production budget of just under $85M, the film is on track to make exceed all expectations.  Close behind grossing $33M in box office sales was Parmount’s Monsters Vs Aliens.  Not bad for either film, huh?  And then comes [...]

Economic Woes Hit Lionsgate Films

According to Variety Magazine, Lionsgate has entered into another phase of layoffs cutting their workforce by 8%.  Aimed at saving the company $15-$20 million annually as part of a cost-reduction strategy, the company hopes this latest measure will help keep operating costs at $120 million.
Lionsgate is the producer of such films as Tyler Perry’s Madea Goes [...]

Anne Hathaway As Judy Garland

The resemblance is there.  I’ll give you that.  But, everyone is talking about how her turn on the stage with Hugh Jackman on Oscar night should’ve given the world a clue that she can sing too.  Really?  I have seen many of her movies, none of which though showcase her pipes, that’s if they’re worth [...]

Set in Clayton, North Carolina, the film is the story of the impact of a covered bridge, built a half-century ago by a man as a tribute to his dying wife, has on a community.  The twist at the end puts life in perspective for many in the town suffering from life challenges.

Slumdog Millionaire Grabs 8!

I TOLD YOU the little engine that could…could!  How fantastic for this little film, huh?  If you haven’t seen it, you really need to!
Slumdog Millionaire pulled in 8 out of 10 oscar noms, among them Best Director and Best Picture (see post below).  That in itself is pretty impressive!
An emotional Kate Winslet took the top honor [...]
